Enabling access to Green Chemistry education

We are passionate about transforming chemistry education to better prepare the next generation of scientists with the skills necessary to address sustainability through chemistry. Our partnership with Beyond Benign enables educators to train future generations in green chemistry and inspires them to foster innovation that brings a sustainability impact.

VPPAs as a step towards climate neutrality

Switching to renewable energy is crucial to combating the impacts of climate change. By the end of 2025, we aim to cover 100% of our European electricity purchases with renewables through virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs). They will fund five new solar and wind projects and move us closer to our goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2040.

Sustainable product development under one umbrella

We aim to reduce the adverse impacts of our products over their entire life cycle. To help our development teams address negative product-related factors, we implemented Design for Sustainability scorecards within the Umbrella project. They combine measurable criteria like energy and emissions, water and packaging to minimize impacts from manufacturing, use and disposal.

Artificial intelligence – Building ethics into code

For organizations, (generative) AI applications offer incredible advantages – but also significant challenges in ensuring their safe implementation and use. Inherent ethical risks are not always obvious and may grow over time. So, how can we be responsible and create trust while harnessing this new technology? The answer lies in our digital ethics principles.

Circular material flows along the OLED value chain

We are committed to a sustainable and resource-efficient circular economy. The optimization of our OLED production throughout the value chain is one example of how we implement circularity in our production processes. By refining how we recycle solvents, reprocess materials internally, and enable our customers to return end-of-life products, we are able to reduce our carbon footprint.

We are challenging standard processes. Another example? We have developed an innovative process based on environmentally friendly deuterated water, D2O, for our OLED products and got rid of the industry standard Benzene D6, which is toxic.

Two billion tablets donated to fight schistosomiasis

Schistosomiasis is a tropical worm disease that can be transmitted while swimming, doing agricultural work or through contact with contaminated water. We are committed to fighting this disease until it is eliminated as a public health problem. Over the past 15 years, we have donated two billion tablets to the World Health Organization to treat schistosomiasis, mainly for school-aged children.

Better malaria protection for everyone!

Worldwide, 249 million cases of malaria were reported in 2022. One way to protect people from malaria is the use of insect repellents. Together with our partners in Ghana, we are testing the efficacy of a new formulation of IR3535® for a longer-lasting protection against malaria infection. Our ambition is to introduce our active ingredient IR3535® in everyday toiletry and hygiene products.

Untreated thyroid disorders pose a major health risk. In partnership with various stakeholders, we are expanding access to education, diagnosis and treatment of this disease. Our Thyromobile drives directly to patients – such as in the Philippines – and provides the knowledge and diagnosis tools needed to improve thyroid health.

Enabling participation

Ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion in clinical trials is an essential part of our commitment to improving health for all, regardless of age, gender or race. We identified four focus areas to help us improve integration and inclusion in clinical trials: Raising awareness, expanding access, enabling patient participation, and reducing barriers to screening.
